MVI Welcomes Leadership Pittsburgh Inc. to the Mon Valley
Mon Valley Initiative recently welcomed Leadership Pittsburgh Inc. (LPInc.) program participants to the Mon Valley as part of their annual Communities Session, an immersive experience designed to connect established and developing leaders with the people and places shaping the region.
On February 12, a group of LPInc. participants visited MVI's Braddock Church Residences, where staff presented information on MVI’s extensive work in Braddock and surrounding Mon Valley communities. Participants then toured the development, an eight-unit mixed-income housing complex within a church originally built in 1893. The building features one- and two-bedroom apartments, six of which are reserved for individuals and families at or below 80% of Area Median Income (AMI), reflecting MVI's commitment to expanding affordable housing options in the region.
Following the tour, participants visited Carnegie One Braddock next door, where Executive Director Vicki Vargo led them through the facility's recently completed $21.4 million renovation. Carnegie One serves as a partner in MVI's North Braddock Neighborhood Partnership Program (NPP), a six-year state tax credit initiative that brings together business, government, and community leaders to invest in distressed communities. Together, the renovated Carnegie One library and Braddock Church Residences, in addition to single-family homes previously developed by MVI in the area, have transformed the Parker Avenue block between Library and Moody Streets.
LPInc. amplifies leaders' potential through cohort-based programs, executive networking, nonprofit board matching, and a broad alumni network, making sessions like this one a natural fit for connecting current and future leaders with organizations driving change in the Pittsburgh region.
MVI is proud to have hosted this visit and looks forward to continued collaboration with LPInc. and its network of community-minded leaders. To learn more about Leadership Pittsburgh Inc., visit their website at lpinc.org.
