TITLE: Program Manager, Produce Marketplace

ANNUAL SALARY RANGE: $50,000-$60,000

SUMMARY: The Produce Marketplace Program Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Clairton Produce Marketplace. The position reports directly to the CEO and manages all store staff, including shift supervisors, clerks, and volunteers. Program Manager is responsible for ensuring the ongoing financial sustainability of the store and the program, in addition to day-to-day store operations. Program Manager will manage, train, and support marketplace staff and volunteers, handle customer relations, develop and maintain current and new vendor relationships, and collaborate with MVI staff in other program areas as those overlap with the Produce Marketplace (ex. marketing, finance, community development).

The position also assumes all responsibilities of Shift Supervisor and/or Clerk when either are not present.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and manage program budget, including sales projections, tracking Cost of Goods, staff time, and equipment needs; in collaboration with MVI finance team

• Regular review (at least annually) and updating of the program’s business plan and operating policies & procedures

• Oversee daily store operation including opening & closing procedures, inventory management, and accurate transaction completion

• Ensure that all store staff and volunteers are trained and properly executing their duties

• Maintain ongoing reports for internal use and external funding applications and activity tracking

• Establish and maintain relationships with other regional Food Justice organizations, seeking new partners to address regional need

• Ensure in-store customer engagement and assistance, including addressing any negative feedback

• Build and maintain a relationship with local and regional vendors, and seek new products that fit within the program goals

• Collaborate with MVI marketing and community development teams to ensure the program remains relevant and continues adapting to the changing needs of the community

• Communicate with MVI leadership team to ensure that the program stays in line with all policies and practices of the organization, including participating in regular management team meetings

• Implement and manage current, ongoing, and new processes to effectively run both the marketplace specifically and the program as a whole, including:

  • Inventory and vendor management, including stocking, order placement, order pick-up and/or unloading, storage management, and related food safety practices

  • Proper operation of basic food preparation equipment including scales/measuring, vacuum packaging/sealers, and bread and meat slicers

  • Management of cash handling, including in-store transactions and related tender, accurate accounting of daily sales, maintenance of cash drawer activity, and oversight of in-store tender programs

  • Ongoing maintenance and cleanliness of property and overall management of all necessary maintenance, repairs, or improvements by related service providers, including refrigeration specialists

• Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

• Acquire and maintain an Allegheny County Food Handlers license

• Able to operate Microsoft Office suite computer programs (Excel, Word) and point-of-sales software

• Able to lift 50 lbs.

• Able to work in a diverse community setting

• Must be 18 years of age or older

• Position includes frequent standing, walking, verbal communications, including telephone contact, and travel between facilities*
